David Studebaker Shelton passed March 26, 2001.

And Mary McCullough passed

September 30, 2012.

He was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 3, 1916. As a Senior valedictorian at Dayton's Steel High School he presented an honorary degree to Orville Wright. A history major at Oberlin College, he was steeped in the ideas and personalities of the Age of Enlightenment. He went on to be a journalist in New Jersey and New York until he was drafted in 1941.

As a company infantry commander in the 87th Division of Patton's 1st Army, he was shot in the head on December 30, 1944 by a German sniper in the small hamlet of Moircy, Belgian during the Battle of the Bulge.

Paralyzed on his right side and suffering from aphasia, he spent five years in military hospitals in recovery. He went on to raise his three sons Mac, George and Peter

with his dear wife Mary McCullough Shelton.
