Tonto Natural Bridge
05/16/2002 I took the day off and went
up here. It was very nice. Not too hot. Noodles wasn't
allowed on the trails, but we were allowed to go to all
the look-outs. I talked to the
ranger.

05/17/2002 Noodles and I stayed at the
Strawberry Lodge. No TV. I dropped by the saloon across
the street but stayed for only one beer. It was kind of a
rough place. I had the chicken parmigian or however you
spell it with buttered noodles and garlic toast at the
lodge. There was a very forgetful lady there. She'd forget
everything we just talked about. She was really suffering
from dementia, but she seemed very nice and smart
otherwise. They charged ten extra bucks for my dog
Noodles. The other places wouldn't have her. Next time
I'll stay at the Alden Inn just before or is it after?

05/17/2002 Noodles waded a little. No
one was there except us. I carried Noodles back to the
truck. Then we went to some other places. This place
hasn't changed much since we camped there for ten days in
1959.

East Verde River
08/08/2004 Noodles and I walked down a
bit and there was a warbler in the tree that had an eye
ring and was very yellow with a black-tipped tail, but I
can't find such a bird in the book. One car there but no
people I could see. Later, a car came by. I didn't stay
long, but one day I will go there with some people and
look for birds. It's a good spot. I stopped at CONTROL
ROAD to find a couple of crinoids. I found a few but they
weren't too good. All right and interesting though.

08/08/2004 Out by that general store,
Noodles had a rest stop. It was by the place where I think
we stayed before in some crappy room that isn't recorded
here. This was the trip back where I had no air
conditioning in the truck because it broke and it was 111
degrees in Chandler and I drove back with Noodles lying on
a twenty-pound bag of ice cubes! She was cool. I wasn't.
Hell of a drive.

08/08/2004 Sally and kate were there. I
came up on Friday. We went all the way to the end of the
ice cave. We went into town. We went to the ski drift
lozenge and saw Charles Button, possibly the worst guitar
player and singer ever! Noodles had a good time.

Bastards said I owed five bucks just for showing up.
There's a sign. I gave him five bucks and he said, "There
are two signs. It would be hard to miss them." I said
angrily, "Look I just gave you five bucks and it wasn't to
have to tell me how stupid and unobservant I was." Later I
called up and fought with them and got much the same. But
they said they'd give me back my five bucks.

just pulled over and you know you can go to the lake
without paying too. Just park on the highway and walk
down.

05/27/2009 My clutch broke on the way
down to Rye, Arizona and I had to coast a few miles down
and turn off at Rye. They towed me up to Payson and I ked
welded the busted part back together and then fixed it all
for twenty bucks.
