PHOENIX SEWER FLATS
BOTULISM
(The coot was dying of botulism.)

Phoenix Sewer Flats 10/23/1971 "Saturday A Mild Day" I'm not sure whether this place exists anymore. Once we went there and there were many many many dead ducks. Botulism? Was this the time Dad pointed out my first water pipit? It was on a fence, which is rather unusual for them. I have a picture of me holding a dead coot and I have my original Birds of North America book in my back pocket. It's title is Tom with Coot Phoenix Sewer Flats 1971 Botulism.jpg

THE DECEMBER STAMP IS WRONG BECAUSE WE USED TO WAIT A LONG TIME BEFORE DEVELOPING THE FILM.

The same day:

2015 Sierra Vista 10/23/1971 All day we saw mourning doves and at breakfast this morning I saw a red shafted flicker who flew up into the palm tree.
