Tom Hascall ColeWell, I always wanted to be a science fiction writer, but that didn't work out. My only science fiction novel didn't find a publisher. I wrote three grammar books before Prentice Hall published the Article Book. I wrote the software arcade games for the three books too. But I think this grammar book writing is over for me. I get taxed 42 percent, so I don't make as much money as I should and it's such a hassle to write them. Been there, done that. Pressure. Deadlines. Worry. I'm writing something else now that I hope will make millions! It's totally different. Hint: It's about music and a famous rock star.
Friday, November 20, 2009 at 6:24am MST
Tom Hascall ColeOh, by the way. You remember Mr. Dee? I think he did have an effect.
Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 4:31pm MST
Paulette ChartierMr. Dee made a lasting impression on so many of us. Hmmmm famous rock star, you look more country western so I'm guessing it's not your memoirs :)
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 8:17am MST
Tom Hascall ColeActually, I play western swing. Very little country. They say country/western but never the twain shall meet. Country is about getting drunk, fighting your best friend, getting divorced, and having to leave your dog with your ex. Western, on the other hand, is about the open range and the prairies and the timber-topped mountains and high sierras. And your horse. But the western players are more sophisticated players and play JAZZ. The country guys don't. Country guys believe in their hats and actually wear them off stage. Western guys know the hats are just costumes. Western has tons of 40s swing in it and pays tribute to Jean "Django" Reinhardt of the Hot Club of France and Count Basie's Freddie Green, Basie's rhythm guitar player. They admire players like that. It's much nicer. The screenplay I'm writing is a "what if" about a rocker who is pulled into western and swing. I've very excited about it as I have written all the music and I'm plugging away at the screenplay. Think of a combination of Crazy Heart and Amadeus and you'll get a taste of my story, but it's kind of a secret. It’s just a dream, but even if I fail, at least I tried! It's a great hobby -- like my memoir/essays. And a little something of me might go on living after I'm gone. Maybe.

Tom Hascall ColeThis was such a nice picture that I had it blown up and it is on my wall next to the bumper sticker 911 We Will Never Forget. I also had it made into a puzzle many years ago. Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 4:41am MST
Sally Cole MooneyEverything I know about religion I learned at John J. Audubon public school...I still know the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm by heart. I wonder if the teachers knew we were little heathens?
Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 7:07am MST
Tom Hascall ColeWell, that teacher who led us in such pious prayer was also an abusive nut who particularly hated little girls, and if today she did the things she did then, she might not have just been fired but possibly thrown in the pokey for a while. The incidents are described in my essay Fifth Grade in 1956.
